Submitting sitemaps to Google has always been one of top “to do” items when trying to get into Google.
However, there is now some talk about not submitting sitemaps to Google.

The basic idea is that if you don’t submit a sitemap and allow Google to crawl your site naturally, then what it does not crawl may give you insight as to what Google deems as important or unimportant.
Also, submitting a sitemap may inadvertently tell the Google spider to crawl a page that is weak or a hinderance to your ranking.
Interesting counter-points. I’m still not sure if I agree although it’s something to consider.
